PiezoMotor

PiezoMotor is a world-leading developer and manufacturer of groundbreaking micro motors based on piezoelectric materials. Simple, extremely precise and very small, the motors replace traditional technology and enable motorization where it was not possible before. The motors’ performance include sub-nanometer positioning as well as high force in a small package. The motors can operate in vacuum and can be made completely non-magnetic. In Uppsala, Sweden, PiezoMotor has its own in-house high-volume manufacturing facility, R&D center and headquarters. All major geographical markets are covered by a global distribution network and many leading multinational companies within medtech, semicon, defence, space industry etc. are found in the customer list.

Rotary Motors
Piezo LEGS® Rotary Ø17mm
LR17
LR17 high-precision motor belongs to the second generation of Piezo LEGS® rotary motors. Ideally suited for ‘move-and-hold’ applications or automatic adjustments, it is both precise and strong (30 mNm stall force). Direct-friction drive gives full motion control without backlash plus full-force, power-off locking. Standstill is completely free from jitter. Micro-stepping resolution is extreme (< 0.0001 mrad) and an integrated magnetic encoder gives a closed-loop resolution of 0.2 mrad. This compact motor is ideal for many build-in OEM applications; LR17 often fits where nothing else will.

Piezo LEGS® Rotary 50mNm

LR50
LR50 is a completely non-magnetic precision rotary motor based on Piezo LEGS® technology. Non-magnetic means a magnetic flux density less than 1 nT (sensor sensitivity) 10 mm from the motor housing. In addition, the running piezoelectric motor generates no magnetic flux. LR50’s direct friction drive (without backlash) ensures full-force, power-off locking. Often fitting where nothing else can, it delivers up to 50 mNm torque. Piezo LEGS® technology is ideal for any ‘move-and hold’ application that benefit from high precision, instant response and low power consumption. Smallest step resolution is sub-microradian.

Piezo LEGS® Rotary 80mNm

LR80
LR80, a compact, high-torque, direct-drive piezoelectric rotary motor based on Piezo LEGS® technology, features direct friction drive without backlash. It delivers up to 80 mNm torque and, like other rotary motors in this series, will often find room in spaces too small for traditional motors. Its friction drive ensures full-force, power-off locking. Piezo LEGS® technology is ideal for ‘move-and hold’ applications that put a premium on precision, instant response and low power consumption. LR80’s smallest step resolution is sub-microradian. A version for use in a vacuum is also available.

Linear Motors

Our Piezo LEGS® linear motors range in force from a few Newton up to 450 N. The patented technology delivers single-digit nanometer resolution and direct friction drive with zero backlash. The piezoelectric motors are compact, often fitting where nothing else will. Use them when traditional motor technologies fail to meet your current space or performance demands. There is also the choice of us helping you to design special customized versions.

Driver

Microstepping Driver 101

PMD101

PMD101 is a 1-axis microstepping driver for Piezo LEGS® motors. One of the more advanced drivers in our range, it gives motors resolution down to the nanometer/microradian range. Driving in closed-loop mode is possible when reading back position from a position sensor. PMD101 supports quadrature and analog encoders as well as serial SSi sensors. By issuing a single command, it guides the motor to the exact encoder count, taking into account parameter settings for ramping behavior. This driver delivers up to 2048 micro-steps per waveform cycle, giving approximately 2 nanometer (0.002 µm) movement per micro-step for a Piezo LEGS® linear motor. Waveforms optimized for speed, resolution or force are available. The unit communicates with the host through serial USB using ASCII commands. Several I/O pins are available

Microstepping Driver 206

PMD206

PMD206, a 6-axis micro-stepping driver for Piezo LEGS® motors, is our most advanced driver, giving motors resolution in the sub-nanometer/microradian range. Closed-loop driving is possible when reading back position from a position sensor. PMD206 supports quadrature encoders and serial SSi sensors. Issuing a single command, it guides motors to the exact encoder count, taking into account the parameter settings for ramping behavior. It delivers up to 8192 micro-steps per waveform cycle, giving approximately 0.5 nanometer (0.0005 µm) movement per micro-step for a Piezo LEGS® linear motor. The unit communicates with the host using ASCII commands through serial RS485 or TCP/IP. Several I/O pins are available

Analogue Driver PMCM31

PMCM31

PMCM31 is an analogue driver for Piezo LEGS® motors. With a 12 VDC 0.3 A supply voltage and ±9.6 V DC control voltage, the unit can form part of a closed-loop controller design. Motor speed will depend on the magnitude of the applied control voltage whereas running direction will be according to polarity. This driver can be operated in stepping mode for high speed and bending mode for fine positioning. Automatic sensor feedback requires a PC able to read the sensor signal and control the analog signal. Stand-alone controllers can also be used.
