Safety Monitors for Speed, Direction of Rotation, Standstill and Position

The motrona range of SIL3/PLe and SIL2/PLd certified safety devices are intended to detect and monitor machine movements. The purpose is to protect the operator and machine by analyzing speed-, direction-, standstill and position and comparing with pre-selected limits.

For the requirements of increased security criteria according to DIN 61508 or EN ISO 13849 our SIL3/PLe and SIL2/PLd certified DS series offer maximum reliability and safety. With an integrated analog output an additional signal is supplied that can be used as feedback for motion controllers. All these devices and monitors are developed for an easy installation in control cabinets and by the flexible design they are suitable for retrofitting or inclusion in the existing design of an OEM equipment.

SIL3/PLe & SIL2/PLd certified Monitors (Speed, Standstill, Direction of Rotation)


Industrial automation often require the monitoring of speed limit values ​​such as maximum speed, minimum speed, standstill or direction of rotation. Motrona's Safety Monitors are used when increased safety criteria for safety and reliability of a system is required. In particular, if the highest safety standards for man and machine are essential, the safe speed, standstill and direction of rotation monitors of the DS series with the double certificate by DIN 61508 and ISO 13849 offer maximum security.

Plug-in Display and Programming Unit

BG230: Plug-in Display and Programming Unit


The plug-in display and programming unit BG230 is used for the motrona safety devices of the DS series. This devices contains a huge variety of functions and options of applications. Thanks to its intuitive operation, it is fast, simple and flexible to use. Easy "copy & paste" of system parameters allows the quick transfer to other devices with the same or similar configuration.

The BG230 offers the following features on the safety device:

  • Dual channel frequency indicator
  • Individual scalable for speed indicator, production rates, etc.
  • Editing and saving of the BG230 scaling and safety devices parameters
  • Editing and copying of the safety devices parameters

Monitor for Speed, Standstill and Direction of Rotation

These devices are designed as monitoring modules for control cabinet installation. They are used to the monitoring of machine overspeed, underspeed, direction of rotation or standstill. Versions with analog output additionally can be used for control and regulation purposes.
Special features of these devices are the very high frequency range, the fast response and the easy configuration of the speed-, direction- and standstill-detection depending of the used signal formats.

Motrona​ Digital Indicators

Precise monitoring for almost all applications

Our display and evaluation systems ensure a precise monitoring of analog, pulse and absolute value information. The significant parameters for rotating and linear processes are precisely monitored, evaluated and displayed.

The electronic and pulse counters, process and position indicators distinguish themselves by offering a high dynamic range, short response times and an input frequency up to 1 MHz. Our display devices are able to perform complex data manipulation such as summing, difference, filtering, linearization and totalization and comparison between input variables. Additionally, the digital displays provide up to four preset values for relay and transistor outputs. The set-up procedures are straightforward, using an intuitive menu system for entry and adjustment of parameters. Display devices equipped with a serial interface also allow operation and configuration using our OS user software.

Process Indicators for Analog Norm Signals or DMS Sensors

Short reaction time, precision as well as exceptional technical characteristics, accompanied by the flexible configuration of the operating mode - this is what motrona analog process displays stand for.

Our process displays are mainly used in the fields of automation and instrumentation in order to evaluate and visualize analog standard signals for ±10 V or 0/4 ... 20 mA. Dual-channel versions with two inputs are also available. That allow users to display sums, differences or ratios. Furthermore we offer process displays with which the signals of strain gauges or strain gauge sensors can be processed.

With our variety of process indicators, we provide the tailor-made product solution for almost all requirements - from simple compact process displays to sophisticated multi-function devices with numerous operating modes, preselections and any outputs.

Universal Indicators and Timers for Frequencies, Speeds, Times and Machine Strokes

Multifunctional displays from motrona are used in automation and mechanical engineering in order to visualize, record, calculate or control frequencies, times and (in the case of dual-channel devices) sums, differences or ratios. This results in applications such as tachometer, speed meter, sum-, difference- or ratio-display, baking time display, industrial stopwatch or counter. With our digital frequency meters, we offer the right device for almost every industrial machine requirement. The devices process the signals of conventional incremental rotary encoders, sensors, light barriers, proximity switches or length measuring systems.

Motrona​ Motion Controller

Outstanding dynamic at highest level of accurancy and precision

Our Motion Controllers are implemented in numerous applications in the field of modern drive technology. The firmware library includes optimized routines for applications such as drive synchronization, index or intermitted printing, label-printing, rotary cutters, flying shears and eccentric scissors.

As other motrona products, the set-up procedures are simple and intuitive. The highly integrated Motion Controllers feature by a very high cut-off frequency up to 2 MHz, a very flexible bus architecture as well as a variable input configuration of encoders and sensors.

A unique feature of the MC800 drive controller is the integrated tandem drive controller which enables achieving the acceleration requirement of a slave axis by distributing the power on two independent drives.

Synchronous Controllers (Electronic Shaft or Gearbox) for Synchronization of Speed, Events, Positions, Print Marks Regler

All synchronization controllers shown on this site operate according to the Master- Slave principle. Where the Master can freely move with any motion profile under control of any remote speed reference, the synchronizer will control one or several Slaves to exactly follow the Master motion in terms of position and speed.
The control is based on incremental position feedback by means of encoders on both sides. Many applications just use a measuring wheel with encoder instead of a Master drive. It is possible to preset every speed or gear ratio by means of adjustable impulse scaling factors.

All units can accept marker pulses from the encoders and from remote proximity switches or photocells, to automatically produce the correct position with pitch or cycle related applications. motrona synchronous controllers can operate with any kind of speed variable drives (AC inverter, DC, Servo or hydraulic type) that follow to a ±10 V speed reference signal. The extremely fast position control loop provides excellent performance even with highly dynamic applications.
