Companies that deal with the processing of materials in reels require excellent performance in the web tension control. In order to optimize the production cycle, it is essential to use systems that guarantee the process continuity and an excellent quality of the semi-finished or finished product. The web tension is the most influential parameter: it is necessary that the correct tension value remains constant during all the work phases through the use of high-quality brakes and clutches to avoid any material breakage of the material as well as ripples that may cause defects on the final product.

The brakes and clutches are mounted on roll stands, winders and unwinders in open loop or closed loop tension control regulation systems.

• In open-loop tension control regulation systems brakes and clutches are used together with ultrasonic sensors that detect the diameter of the roll or bobbin, the tension controller that receives the signal from the ultrasonic sensor and which emits an input to the brake in turn. The latter will vary the torque in order to obtain the desired tension
• In closed-loop tension control regulation systems brakes and clutches are used together with load cells or dancer rollers to detect the web tension, the tension controller which receives the signal of the ultrasonic sensor and which emits an input to the brake in turn. Finally, the brake will adjust the torque in order to obtain the web tension required.

Pneumatic brakes are the ideal solution for corrugators, unwinders, slitters and rewinders machines, on flexo, rotogravure printing and converting machines – the high torque ratio is necessary to obtain an accurate tension control both in the tensioning phase and in emergency stop situations.

In this case it is necessary that the pneumatic brakes work at reduced operating temperatures for a constant web tension control at any line speed and for a consistent reduction of the components wear and dust emission in the working place. Complying with these targets the brakes contributes to a greater respect of the environmental regulations and safety level for the operator as well as to an increase of the machine efficiency and to the reduction of maintenance times and costs.

Magnetic powder brakes and clutches are mainly used in the converting field for printing machines, labelling, flexible packaging, on both unwinders and rewinders.

Caliper brakes suit the most diverse applications and are ideal for example in the wire industry on reels unwinders, pay-off stands, extruders, cable treatment lines, braiding machines, tubular stranders, planetary cablers, twisters and others.

Multidisc brake with double fan. The Turborex, pioneer of eco-friendly brakes improves the unwinding efficiency while ensuring the highest performance and the least maintenance requirements for spare parts. Thanks to double fan ventilation, it works at lower temperatures also on the toughest applications -7/24- where working conditions are extreme and working temperatures need to be drastically dissipated (example: bridge applications). • RENOVA​ COMBIREX CX250 PNEUMATIC MONODISC BRAKE

Mono-disc, multi-caliper, air-cooled brake. 
With a modular caliper system (up to 6 calipers), Combirex CX250 pneumatic brake reaches a maximum torque of 960 Nm and a heat dissipation of 4,5kW. A wide a selection of diverse HP fan models is available in order to reach different heat dissipation values.
The CX250 brake was designed by Gianpiero Re in the 1980s, the same person who later founded in 2005 Renova srl.

Combirex CX250 pneumatic brake became the reference brake in the converting industry and is still widely used on unwinders in a great variety of applications.
In the 1980’s Mr. Re applied an innovative axial fan ventilation on the CX mono-disc brakes which helped to decrease the temperature faster than before. This led to a reduction of pad wear and an increased web tension quality compared to previous brakes without a cooling fan. To control the deceleration of moving parts for small and medium powers, the best solution is the combination of a brake disc with one or more calipers. 
Simplex caliper brakes are suitable for the most various applications thanks to a wide range of models including manual, pneumatic or hydraulic brakes; also available in the failsafe version (spring applied) to guarantee plants’ safety during maintenance and/or in emergencies.
Simplex manual caliper bakes are manually activated thanks to the operator intervention and they are used in all industrial applications where the pneumatic or hydraulic supply may be absent. This type of brakes is normally selected to allow static, maneuvering or tensioning braking.
Simplex pneumatic caliper brakes are designed for industrial applications where air pressure is required to activate the braking system.
The positive pneumatic caliper brakes are therefore activated from the air pressure, which can vary between 0 and 6 bar modifying the braking force in turn. Once the power required is reached it will remain constant, regardless the brake pads wear. The negative pneumatic caliper brakes exploit, instead, the spring actions to activate braking system in a very short time.
Hydraulic caliper brakes have been designed for industrial applications using hydraulic supply. In their negative version they work by springs activation.

Duplex has been designed to cope with two problems which often occur during the production cycle.
The first one is the paper and money wasting problem, which is caused by the reel core slippage. Paper waste most ofter occur during splicing, because of an incomplete unwinding of the roll or due to core damage (cores can’t be re-used).
The second problem is related to a low safety level for the operator and the machine due to the manual intervention with levers or other tools for the discharged of stuck reels or cores from the reel stand.
The patented Duplex, combines the high quality of Renova’s mechanical torque chuck with a pneumatic telescopic piston which is concentric to the mechanical chuck.

Digital measuring amplifier for connecting two load cells with strain gauge bridge. Its compact size, user-friendliness and easy installation allow the Reset amplifier to be extremely flexible and precise at the same time, with a high long-term stability and an excellent linearity. It is equipped with a 24-bit acquisition circuit with programmable gain, of 3 analog outputs to a control unit and a digital input for a reset of the outputs from remote.

In the standard mode, the measuring amplifier allows the analog signal zeroing (calibration), and the output gain increasing / decreasing, by a three-buttons interface; the output tension is continuously visualised on the display, allowing, therefore, the adjustment without external instruments (tester or screw-driver).

In the advanced mode, it is possible to program all operational parameters of the units, by the keyboard and the display: zero, gain (full scale in engineering unit), pass-band of the filter on the signal etc.; in normal operation, the display visualises the tension measurement, calculated according to the current parameters.

The normal mode, displays the voltage measurement which is based on the current parameterization.

The Isomatic is suitable for various applications where a precision and reliable measurement and control of the tension of winding/unwinding rolls are required. The Isomatic compares the web tension value detected from the load cells with the ‘set point’ and send the input to the brake (or motor) so to adjust the web tension. The web tension value can also be obtained by the ultrasonic sensor able to detect the reel diameter or by a potentiometer connected to a dancer roller. RENOVA ROLL PUSHERS

• RENOVA MOVIROLL MR PNEUMATIC ROLL PUSHERS

Moviroll MR uses the power of a high quality pneumatic gear motor powered by pressurized and lubricated air at 6 bar. The movement of this gearmotor allows the transmission of the circular motion to a pyramidal system of three rubbered rollers. The activation of this gear motor allows the transmission of the circular motion to a pyramidal system composed of three rubber rollers.

Thanks to the chain drive, the motion is transferred from the pinion fit to the gear motor to the pinion fit to the drive roller. When the drive roller is touching the roll, it has been compressed by the roll weight against the driving rollers. In this way the continuous and effortless handling of the roll is guaranteed but only when the load is applied.
