The mechanical detection of linear movement is done by a guided or free cursor, in which magnets are casted in sealing compound. In the IP65 sealed housing the magentostrictive sensor element with the compact printed coil technology and the electronic runtime measurement are integrated. The position evaluation of the magnetic cursor is transformed contactless into a linear analog signal 0,1..10,1 V or 4..20 mA. The magnetostrictive measurement principle is true power on with high sample rates up to 1 ms and delivers absolute values in high accuracy. A special feature of the magnetostrictive method is the great tolerance in mechanical offset up to ±2 mm in vertically and horizontally position of the free magnetic cursor. This permits applications with critical shock or vibration influences. The combination of high accuracy with ±0,04% linearity and robust construction in IP 65 sealing gives the magnetostrictive OMS series a good price performance ratio for linear motion measurement from 50 up to 1500 mm even in heavy duty applications.

Im Sensorgehäuse sind das magnetostritkive Wegelement und die elektronische Laufzeitmessung integriert. Die Position des magnetischen Gebers wird digital und dadurch sehr präzise über die SSI Schnittstelle ausgegeben. Das Signal ist absolut, d.h. auch nach Ein- und Ausschalten steht die Positionsrückmeldung sofort zur Verfügung. Da das magnetostriktive Messprinzip kontaktlos funktioniert, ermöglicht es eine sehr lange Lebensdauer. Besonders für große Messwege über 300 mm, die mit sehr hoher Genauigkeit ausgewertet werden müssen, ist dieses Messverfahren geeignet. Es verträgt seitlichen sowie horizontalen Versatz von bis zu ±2 mm des freien Positionsgebers, was die Einbindung auch in Applikationen mit starken Schock und Vibrationseinflüssen sehr vereinfacht. Die platzsparende und damit einfache Einbindung wird zudem durch den Wegfall einer Schubstange unterstützt. Aus seiner sehr guten Linearität (bis zu 0,02%FS), seiner hohen Auflösung (bis zu 5 µm) und der SSI Schnittstelle ergibt sich die sehr hohe Präzision der digitalen Version vom PMS. Die Elektronik mit dem magnetostriktiven Wegelement befinden sich im geschlossenen und abgedichteten Sensorgehäuse mit Schutzart IP67. Dadurch ist ein sehr geschützter Aufbau erreicht worden, der die Integration des digitalen PMS auch in sehr rauhen Umgebungsbedingungen zuläßt. Für den elektrischen Anschluss stehen sowohl die Steckerverbindung als auch die Kabelausführung zur Verfügung.
